As the 3 day republic day long weekend approached, decided to head out of the city . We headed to the pristine uninhabited beaches of Western Coast of India. Getting There You can reach either of the places by road or by train. The most convenient way to get there by road would be book yourself tickets from KSRTC with buses that run overnight and reach the destination early morning or if you could drive down the awesome roads of NH4. If you intend to take the bus or train make sure you book your tickets well in advance. Our last minute planning meant driving down in my good old 800cc ALTO. Here's the route we took , later I heard there is a more scenic drive via Shimaga . Headed to Hampi for the long new year weekend. The best and most comfortable way to reach there is to either get a train/KSRTC bus ticket to Hospet . You board the train/bus at night and you reach Hospet the next morning as you awake. One could also drive down but then its not as convenient (thats my thought !) . Its a good weekend getaway. Once you are at Hospet, take a local bus to Hampi and either scout for a guest house at Hampi or better still take the boat(5 Rs ) across the other side of the river. There are tons of options to sack out on the other side . You can get a decent place to stay starting from Rs 75/- going all the way upto Rs 1000/. I went onto the otherside of the river. There is something about the place, its surrounded by boulders and rocks all around and there is somekind of magnetic force around that forces you to relax and forget the hectic city life you just left behind.
