Hampi

Headed to Hampi for the long new year weekend.

The best and most comfortable way to reach there is to either get a train/KSRTC bus ticket to Hospet . You board the train/bus at night and you reach Hospet the next morning as you awake. One could also drive down but then its not as convenient (thats my thought !) . Its a good weekend getaway.

Once you are at Hospet, take a local bus to Hampi and either scout for a guest house at Hampi or better still take the boat(5 Rs ) across the other side of the river. There are tons of options to sack out on the other side . You can get a decent place to stay starting from Rs 75/- going all the way upto Rs 1000/. I went onto the otherside of the river.

There is something about the place, its surrounded by boulders and rocks all around and there is somekind of magnetic force around that forces you to relax and forget the hectic city life you just left behind. This place is a backpacker's paradise and one gets to meet people from all around the world just chilling out there. I met folks from Korea, Israel(ofcourse you are sure to find them every place you visit these days!!), Swizterland, Britain, Iran and some folks from Bangalore.

You can just shut yourself away from the media(No TV), no newspaper and volla the mobile doesn't work either ! There are internet cafes and STD shops, just incase your mind wanders and you still want to be in touch with your familiar world.

Its also a foodies paradise , and one gets all the best possible cuisines from across the globe at reasonable prices. I had a great time! Also, don't miss eating out at " The Mango Tree" .

Borrow a cycle or walk around the place, its not a big area. Clamber up the Hanuman Temple Hill and don't forget the sunset from up above. Its just breath taking! You could also do some rock climbing if you want to be a bit more adventurous.

Enjoy !
