US East Coast Road Trip(May 2006)
New York(Big Apple)
Back after a great vacation this month!
I took off to the East Coast after an hectic schedule at Work(California), it was a much needed break from the rigours of work. Flying to East Coast, from the west is reasonably cheap if you book the late night JETBLUE Flight a little in advance.I flew out of San Jose and reached JFK Airport, NY early Saturday morning. My cousin picked me up at JFK airport. Met him after a decade and somehow it didn't seem that it was such a long time !!Geographically, New York is a city with 5 boroughs:The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn,Manhattan, The Staten Island
I packed up my ruck sack and hit the road by bus after a day's rest at NY. My first stop was NY City .The view from the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building was spectacular. The building was constructed in record time in May 1931 and was celebrating its 75th anniversary.
Went across to Wall Street, and was at the steps of the NYSE !!
Caught a glimpse of the Statue of Libery from the river cruise boat. The Statue was gifted by France to the people of the United States, over one hundred years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American Revolution.
A trip to NY wouldn't be complete after all, without a stroll across Times Square .Times square was bustling with people and traffic all around and reminded me of home .
Washington and Philidelphia
The next stop after NY was Philly and Washington.Washington DC is a city of monuments and museums.I did visit all the places like all the tourists would !!
Capitol Hill,Washington Monument,White House,Jefferson Memorial,Lincoln Memorial
I also visited a few of the Smithsonian Museums but wish I had planned my trip better and had spent more time there. It consists of 19 out of the world museums and its all free.
Trip to Philly was a bit of quicky, spent some time around the town hall and Freedom Bell site
Hersheys Chocolate World and CorningGlass Museum
Spent couple of hours at Hersheys
and Corning Glass Museum on route to Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is a set of massive waterfalls located on the Niagara River in eastern North America, on the border between the United States and Canada. Niagara Falls comprises three separate waterfalls: the Horseshoe Falls (sometimes called the Canadian Falls), the American Falls, and the smaller, adjacent Bridal Veil Falls. I didn't have the time to get a Canadian Visa and have a glimpse from the other side but the view from the US side was awesome. I loved the Maid of the mist ride that takes you near the turbulent waterfall.
Spent an evening and the next morning at Niagera. The rainbow over the river in the morning on the 2nd day was really beautiful .
Boston:
This was the last leg of my trip . I really enjoyed walking around in Boston. It still has the old world charm.
and ofcourse how can i forget walking around the Harvard and MIT Campus.
