On the Road Again -Sharavathi

With another long weekend approaching and monsoon in its splendor , spoke to a friend and we decided to head to the forests. Initial thought was to drive to Karwar but since my friend wasnt a long distance roadie like me , wanted a break in between so decided to stop over at Sharavathi next to jog falls. Got the bookings at Sharavathi and Devbagh..

So on a cloudy and cold morning this Friday , took out my old companion POLO and hit the tarmac. Lovely empty green stretches with good music and couple of short stops we drove down 435kms in 7hours and were at Sharavathi camp for lunch .

It was pouring at Shimoga. After lunch, we went and relaxed a bit and then around 4pm we had tea and then headed for a boat ride ,kayaks also. Snacks and Dinner listening to the pouring rain around us and met an old friend and family after 14yrs and time really stood still.

The camp has just been opened about a month back and everything is sparkling . All evening it just poured non stop .One could just listen to the wind and streams and all the birds and insects all around .. After dinner my friend thought it might be better to stay at the sameplace if JLR agreed to transfer the booking from Devbagh for next day. Devbagh is about 3-4hrs drive from Sharavathi but with rain and poor visibility it could have taken longer. We spoke to the manager and he spoke to the bosses and agreed to change it.

After a wakeup call and hot tea ,we headed to Jog falls the next morning but rain and poor visibility meant the fall was hardly visible . Rest of the day was spent just relaxing, reading books since it was pouring outside and ofcourse the meals in between.

Same routine the next morning and we were lucky enough to get a faint glimpse of the falls .

After a good breakfast , it was time to head back home . Another 435kms drive by yours truely

The camp is located about 6kms from Jog Falls (The second highest fall in India).
