On the Road Again:River Terns

Image
Drove out of the city to River Tern near Shimoga for a break from the chaos .. It was really hot and humid and even the Jeep Safari I took in the afternoon didn't come across any animals or birds except a gaur and languar. However, the next morning was very nice on the boat with River Terns breeding on the banks.. Here are some pictures from the trip and more here

On the Road: Naguvanhalli Again

Image
Had driven down to Naguvanhalli few weeks back and as I was out doing some work on a Saturday morning, the same friends called me mentioning they were heading to the spot again . After some thought I left the errand and got back home and headed straight to the small village by the side of Cauvery.  The Saturday afternoon traffic was terrible and google maps took me round the destination location for over an hour but I guess overall it was worth the effort. Here are some pics from there and more here

On the Road:In search of winged Beauties-Naguvanhalli

Image
It was a month or two since I drove out of town and getting in touch with some friend lead to a quick trip to a small village next to the cauvery river just 140kms away from home. Some folks may think it to be crazy that one would go with no sleep for close to 24hrs since I started driving at 3:00AM to meet friends on the highway couple of kms away and to reach the village before sunrise.  We pitched tents and hide inside for the birds to come out in search of insects. The morning session ended after few hours and after some food and rest we waited for the afternoon/evening session..  This turned out to be even better and saw some really nice migratory blue-tailed bee eaters. Another year

Image
And as the new year approaches ,have to remind myself about life.... Life is no straight and easy corridor along which we travel free and unhampered, but a maze of passages, through which we must seek our way, lost and confused, now and again checked in a blind alley. But always, if we have faith, a door will open for us, not perhaps one that we ourselves would ever have thought of, but one that will ultimately prove good for us -A.J.Cronin

On the road again:Winged Beauties of Thattekad

Image
With the end of the year approaching ,I wanted to take the black stallion out into the forest in search of some winged beauties . Thattekad had been in my mind since over a year but the drive of about 500kms required some time in hand. With my car all set I spent couple of days in the deep forests trekking in the morning and night in search of some owls that migrate from ceylon during the winter months. Being a solo driver mostly one has to be prepared for any incidents. On the way back, the water coolant alert started appearing and realized water pump was leaking. God however was kind that I was stuck on the highway in kerela near thrissur where I managed to get the car towed and taken to the nearest VW workshop. The workshop didn't have a spare for my 1.6 POLO and had to source it from Bangalore, so with work looming ,I left the car to be fixed and came back. They took good care of the car and fixed it in two days and so I went back there, visited few temples and a palace an...
