Misty Nilgiris
Last weekend we headed to the Mudumali forests. The solo traveler had 14 people for company this time ! A very different experience.
We left Bangalore around midnight on Friday, stopped over at the Cafe Coffee Day on the way about 80kms out of town. It was chock a block with people at 2 A.M. and most of us couldn't even find a resting place. I managed to grab a cup of hot chocolate and croissant !
The bus ride was one hell of a musical trip with loads of loud hindi music beaming out of the speakers and folks having a great time. I liked the music and fun initially but then the music got to me after awhile ! Without a wink of sleep whole night :) we reached Mudumalai forest early next morning having crossed Bandipur on the way. We caught a few glimpses of wildlife- deers, elephants, bisons around Bandipur.
We checked into the Guest Home and had a good hot piping breakfast. I just crashed out for sometime to catch my sleep while some others who managed to sleep during the bus ride went out for a walk around the place. I had planned the trip, which meant doing the booking for the stay, travel etc. but other than that i wanted to keep it unplanned but then everybody else wanted to know what they were going to do the next minute :) . The first day for me, was just doing nothing most of the time other than walking, cycling etc.
After a longish game of DumbCharades we headed for the Night Safari. We were suppose to get a glimpse of wildlife but then we realized that we had been taken for a ride by those guys, paying a 1000 bucks for a jeep safari on the main road on muduamalai forests and back where trucks etc. were plying, the only animals we got a glimpse of was pigs and bisons !!
The next day we headed to a waterfall and a hiking place couple of kms from the guest house.
Both the places were out of the world specially the hiking place, with misty clouds all around and the view of the green mountains/trees and the blue skies. On the way back we also went into a tea garden for a brief time.
Overall the trip was nice but a little too loud/noisy one for me with music either being played on the speaker or people singing out loud. I wish some travelers learn to enjoy the quiet and silence of a place a little more. I missed the Sounds of Silence all the days!
