On the Road Again-Muthathi

It had been over 2 months since I had left the city and was itching to head out of town. Being a long xmas weekend and the last minute decision to head out meant finding no place to stay for a overnight trip. I messaged a few team mates on a Saturday morning and they agreed to hit the road in my car the next day. We decided to just drive down someplace outside city limits and head back at night.

We started early sunday morning and headed to Muthathi, about 90 kms from the City. The best way to reach there is Kanakpura Road->Sathanur->Turn left and drive towards Muthathi.

You drive through a nice green belt across the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary and if you are lucky you might just see a herd of elephants ( we weren't so lucky !!).

As you drive along with the forest surroundings, the river reveals itself every now and then , hidden behind the green shades.

We crossed the Jungle Lodge's Cauvery Fishing Camp (a good place to stay but requires prior booking) and stopped beside the river side for awhile. The drive till then had been good with hardly any patches of bad road, a lot better since the last time I had been there. One can actually take a book ,a couple of sandwiches and spend the entire day lazying around that place with not a soul around you.

We had the day to head out in any direction and decided to head towards Shivanasamudra around 60 odd kms from Muthathi . The long drive had patches of non existent roads that didn't do good for my small car but we drove on. Be prepared to carry some food if you drive that part, we however found a roadside stall on the way , which had a choice b/w lemon rice and sambar/rice and the hungry souls just loved it.

At Shivanasamudra, , Kaveri splits into two , and can be viewed at two separate places called
Gaganachukki and Bharachukki a few minutes away. The falls didn't have much water this time of the year but during monsoon most of the area is cordoned off and can be viewed only from a distance. I was disappointed having reached the sight,it being over crowed, with plastic and broken beer bottles strewn all around. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a quiet place to just get away from the city. We headed back via Maddur to avoid the patches of bad road but even the road upto Maddur wasn't the ideal one either. The drive back was a lot better once we hit the Highway, with great music playing on the car stereo and having the day's best meal at Kamat . Overall a great road trip.

Couple of other places nearby are Mekedatu, Chunchi, Sangama,Talkad.
