Does anybody really care !!
As we watch the scenes of terror unravel on our small screens at home the last few days, does anybody really care .. Yes, the media might be calling them Heroes just for today , does anybody really care !!
Just the morning after the attack, I was having coffee at work and expressing my grief over the the death of the ATS chief being killed and the discussion turned into a heated discussion where I was the odd one out with the so called educated folks expressing their pleasure on knowing that a person after hindu terrorists was nailed down. Will India every change ??? Would they have asked the commando who came to save them if they were trapped in TAJ today, whether he came from Kashmir or Kolkatta ??
Growing up being part of a family where both brilliant parents (could have probably done so much more outside) worked for the people , one in the army and the other a surgical specialist in the railways, never turning back to the call of the duty, never being lured to the more lucrative world where probably they could have earned in a day what they got at the end of the month,it seemed so strange. Can the regular civilian know what an army man or his family goes through.
I still remember the days, when there was no tv, no internet,no mobile and the only means of contact with my dad was the odd c/0 56 APO inland letter or the occasinal trunk call we would receive when he was away fighting the insurgency or fighting the war in sri lanka. Can any of these folks even imagine what it takes to serve the nation or how the country treats these valiant soldiers. Isn't it strange that the so called educated youth of today when questioned about the role of the armed forces are always so very critical. Will they be wiling to give up their big airconditoned glass houses or big salaries to do what these guys are doing.. Does anybody really care !! Do they know what happens with the family, these army men leave behind or even the after affects of a war on the soldier and his family,Does anybody really care !!
Just the other day while clearing up my cupboard I found one of those c/o 56 APO inland letter that my dad had sent almost 20yrs back in his beautiful handwriting and it brought back a lot of good and not so good memories...
Will my country ever awake !!

I have too many army brats as friends to even think dis-respect. The respect only grows when one visits the extremes of our country and see how our borders are protected. I can go on and on about the hospitality I have personally received from them at many places.
