River Tern Lodge

The first Monday of the new year, I started a long and beautiful drive to River Tern Lodge with mum and good music for company as dawn broke over. The entire route is quite scenic and as one speeds on the highway even the bumpy ride with the roads in bad state after the monsoon doesn't seem to bother one. We could have stopped at Belur and Halebid that's about 50kms detour but decided to speed away to the Jungle Lodge. River Tern Lodge is situated on a hillock tucked away and each of the cottages and log huts have a view of the Bhadra River. As you enter the cottage , you have an awesome view of the blue river and the hills far away from the balcony or as you laze around in bed.

River Tern Lodge, is a place run by Jungle Lodges and just like their other places , its run efficiently with friendly staff and proves a govt run organization can be world class .

One loses oneself in the serene and green surroundings and the water all around.

One can just read a book or bask in the sun or enjoy the odd drink !

One can go ahead and walk around the place all the way up to the dam or the banks of the river .

One can also go for a boat ride/jeep safari provided by the lodge early morning/late evenings and spot a few animals and birds. The best season to spot birds I believe is April-May when migratory birds flock this place including the " River Tern" that comes from Himachal.

We took an evening boat ride and caught a few birds (many colourful kingfishers and deers ) and also caught the sun disappearing far away.

One can also participate in water sports and I decided to take to the kayak . This was my first time on the kayak but found it easy (must say it was also because the river which wasn't choppy!!) but needs a bit of arm power !

This was a good break after months of work and studies, with a good drive, good place to stay and beautiful surroundings.

Distance :275 kms from Bangalore
Road conditions:Quite a bumpy ride , with stretches of good roads and then pot holed ones.. Took about 5.5 hrs with couple of breaks.
Driving Directions: Map and Detailed Directions
About the Place: Acco. Info

Happy New Year! Glad you managed to get away from the routine for a while. Lovely photographs! I think the best way to start the New Year is with family in a place as beautiful as this.
My parents and sister are in Dubai....came here on the 31st. They have made me see the good and beautiful things about this place which I totally overlooked till now. It often takes someone else to make you notice what is right in front of you, isn't it?

New year, another day I guess for me :) Good to have people around or maybe not !!

Yes ofcourse, one's view of things can be very narrow sometimes just needs a bit of shaking or a different perspective but as long as one realises there is a wonderful world out there , its good :
